Why Italy

BA in Italian?

What can you do after graduating from a 4-yr university with a BA in the Italian language? I'm wondering what practical uses it could have if anyone knows?? I'm going to be majoring in art history but also interested in Italian. I've been told that I should leave college with some "practical" degree..as in something that I can get a job with after the 4yrs. Can you say these paths are "practical" then, in that sense...like I CAN go somewhere with them while going to grad school? Just a lingering thought based off of what I've heard.

  1. Most obvious of course would be too teach Italian at a high school or college level. If you are really good you could be a translator. You could combine art history and italian and do something like a translator at a big tourist attraction like the Metropolitan museum of Art.
  2. Teaching, translating and interpreting are obvious options. With today's technology, it's possible to be a freelance translator out of your home and draw business from all over. You can also do that with being an interpreter for conference calls. But with a major in art history as well, you'd be a natural for leading tour groups to Italy.
