How was Renaissance ideas expressed in Italian Art?

  1. Well, in the Renaissance, the concept of humanism came out. So Italian art placed more emphasis on the individual and the idealizing of the individual. Michelangelo sculpted David as an ideal human being. Another example would be Raphael's School of Athens (currently in the Vatican Museum in Rome) has all the famous philosophers and painters at the time gathering and talking with one another. One idea in humanism is harmony, balance, and order. Raphael portrayed those ideas in his artwork. Another major idea in the Renaissance was worldliness, or secularism. As a result, Italian painters idealized and imitated nature a lot more in their works. Leonard da Vinci's The Last Supper has perfect perspective and depth, while it also does a good job in organizing space.
