Why Italy

what are some cheap italian origin food?

i need to know for my school project , we must bring in 3 dishes , i was assigned 2 , i need to know the cheapest ones and possibly how to make it. it must be italian by origin or possibly a greek origin but italians had to have something to do with it. btw just so noone can say "stick to your own damn culture" let me just add that i am italian but do not cook italian food. btw , spaghetti and lasagne are already pretty much thought thoroughly but id rather bring something that is not so common such as those 2.

  1. Pasta is always cheap. Even the poorest people in Italy can affors pasta. And some eggplant covered with tomato sauce. Slice it up, fry in oil, and cover with hot tomato sauce.
  2. spaghetti is #1,#2 egg plaint fried or Parmesan #3 Fetuchini .Thats cheap its all pasta dude.
  3. Pasta...spaghetti to be exact is the easiest and cheapest. But, maybe add some sauteed veggies to it, so people don't think you totally cheaped out.
  4. I think pesto was one of the most awesome things they ever thought up. All you need is some basil, parmesan, olive oil, balsamic vinegrette, garlic, and pine nuts.... well, okay you can buy it off the shelf already made too.
  5. spaghetti by far. Even Italians will not eat it when they go out because they know how cheap it is to make.
  6. Tortellini is relatively cheap. Google Italian recipes and you can try to make an anti pasti like roasted eggplant and peppers with balsamic vinegar. But you would probably have to buy the tortellini.
  7. spaghetti
  8. Boring folks. everyone knows about pasta. Risotto (Arborio) rice is the way to go! Or a frittata.
  9. I agree that there are some pretty boring ideas here but think that rissotto is the way to go, also look at gnocci (sort of pasta but it has potato in as is boiled as a small dumpling) there is also a peasant salad which uses chunks of stale bread, they whisk together red wine with olive oil, soak the stale bread in it, squeeze out excess liquid then add to a salad
