Do you think italian is a ethnicity or culture?
I'm italian but born in NY. My mother and father are italian. I am proud of being Italian. However, here in the US, we are considered a white ethnicity. Alot of Europeans are considered white. I'm italian with alot of great features and culture. I''m not offended if my ethnicity is considered white . I'm considered of European decent.......

- its a culture. if you were surrounded by all fair skin europeans they'd call you an ethnic minority. People are always looking for a way to divide themselves. Its a sickness.
- Well for one thing, you have to differentiate between "Italian" and "Italian American." In terms of actual ITALIANS I would agree with the above post, it's more of a nationality than an ethnicity OR culture, for the simple reason that Northern Italians and Southern Italians are totally different in appearance AND culture. In terms of Italian Americans, they may be considered "white" now, but they weren't always! Read a book - Italians and Irish were considered "hardly better than" blacks for a long time. Kind of like they're treating the Latino immigrants now...
- Each ethnic term (i.e. Italian, Spanish, Mexican, German, Norwegian, etc...) can either be understood as an ethnicity or the culture it most strongly identifies with. With Jews, "Jewish" can ALSO refer to their religion, but it also is an ethnicity and culture.
- LenElly has my vote for correct answer and it can be looked up to be proven as a fact as well
