1. Download Google Earth and Find Pisa (Its location is 43°43'22.82"N and 10°23'46.79"E - that spot is in fact the Leaning Tower of Pisa) If you turn on the "Roads" layer, you get a very detailed road map of the city, plus you get the added bonus of actually seeing what the city looks like via the sattelite or aerial images.
2. Try using mappe.net its an Italian map website, if you know the area then its really accurate.

4. When I went to Rome last year I used the AAA Essential Guide:Rome. It was wonderful and had very detailed maps. They make one for all of Italy and I highly suggest using it. Not only will you have the maps at your disposal, they also have great recommendations for side trips and things to see you wont find on your own. Plus it reviews restaurants and tells you the average cost of them and other attractions. Its small enough to fit in a back pocket and you'll want something in print while you're there.
