Should I book a hostel in Italy and greece ahead of time, or is it easy to find a place in mid june-early july

I don't want to be pressured for time when I'm travelling, so would it be too risky to not do any pre-booking? Is june/early july high season??

You should definitely book ahead if you can. That is peak travel time, especially for students, who are the primary demographic for hostels. I know it can be cumbersome to have a place you're supposed to be on a specific day, but when you have a place to sleep, instead of being forced to walk to streets of Amalfi, you'll be happy you planned ahead!
