How can I get children interested in traveling?
We will be taking a family trip to Spain and Italy next year, and all members of our family are over 21 now, except for my two brothers, who are 7 and 11. How can we get them excited and interested about this vacation? Are there any good travel books, websites, etc. that are geared toward children? Is there anything in Spain or Italy that would be of particular interest to younger boys?

- There are lots of books in the children's section of the library that might get them a little excited. Of course the prospect of buying souvenirs and eating something really good, but different might help get them a little excited... Swimming in the motel pools or lakes sounds like fun!
- Never been to Spain or Italy, but I did find these sites that might help you: Traveling with Children in Spain: http://gospain.about.com/od/travelingwithchildren/Traveling_with_Children_in_Spain_Where_to_Take_Kids_in_Spain.htm In Italy Online - Kids in Italy: http://www.initaly.com/regions/kids/kidintro.htm KidsEurope: http://www.kidseurope.com/ Sounds like an awesome time - have fun!
- Talk to a travel agent. Request for a good tourist guide in those countries with the kind of fun for people of their ages. Using Go-ogle search on the web could get you everything . You should also ask their opinion on where they would have loved them to go, and why you are proposing your own destination. Hope you find this helpful.
- My guess would be they're not interested because they'll be travelling with a bunch of adults. As such, they probably think the activities will all be what the adults want to do and they'll have no say at all. Not very exciting for them. Try telling them they will have 1 day in which THEY choose what the activities are (with clear groundrules) and that EVERYONE will be participating in what they want to do. Make sure all the adults buy into this and are willing to follow through. That will get them researching things, talking, asking questions (to fit into the groundrules) ... getting excited before you go, looking forward to "their" day. If this is successful, then any other trips you want to go on should be fairly simple to convince them.
- They should find that interesting already. I never got to anything fun like that when i was a kid.
