Moving to Rome???
I want to buy an apartment and get a job before moving there so i will not be left without a job and home when i get there. Is it relatively hard to find a good apartment in rome? and also jobs... what are the best ones to have nowadays? and mopeds... about how much do they cost and are they worth it to travel around the city instead of walking. i have terrible knees that wont be able to handle it walking that much. i dont intend on buying a car just yet but i think a moped would get me where i need to go. ok and any other information about living in Rome, Italy would be greatly appreciated thank you

- I'm jealus. I wanna go to rome! Can I come?
- I don't live there and I only visited for a week but as an american looking in I would highly recommend you walk or use public transportation first and decide if you still need a moped. Italian drivers seemed very aggressive to me and compared to our traffic system appears to be sort of chaotic. If you were going to Germany I might say go for it, but you'll see what I'm talking about. I also saw some craziness with people. I'm fairly aggressive myself when driving but I don't think I would last long in Italy. Besides, you might not even need one if you work/live in the "right" places. They have an extensive public transportation system at very low prices. I don't speak any Italian and was able to get around fairly easily in Rome, Naples, and Palermo without -much- help. As for work, living, etc I don't know. I saw a lot of americans working as tour guides. Not sure if it was a summer job or if they were ex-pats. Judging from their age I imagine they might have just been students. It was also nice hearing an american, british, australian accent in restaurants. That's brave just moving out there without a job. That's exciting though, good luck. I'm jealous, I wish I had the courage to just up and move somewhere without having a plan.
- Moving to Rome is a bad idea. As much as you want to, sometimes you really can't. It is an extremely expensive city, if you want a good apartment you will have to spend over a million dollars. If you can't walk you definitely should not go. Just because you can move to Rome, doesn't mean you should. You will be very mad financially in a couple of years with your decision...do this later in your life when you have a lot more money.
