- Your going to take many many different trains. It would probably be cheaper to fly that distances if your not going to see anything in between. You'll also save a lot of time flying, going on the rails with be very time consuming. I highly recommend taking the train and seeing what in between Amsterdam and Italy. Switzerland is the prettiest country that I have ever seen. And it's a bit cheaper to travel there because they use different currency. You should check out http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/home , and see all the wonderful places there is to visit there. Interlaken is very beautiful, but so are lots of other towns in Switzerland. Also don't worry about being searched between trains and country you can carry whatever you want between all those European Union countries. For the train website through Europe go to http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm?WT.mc_id=Google_Europe_Rail&WT.srch=1
- You can travel to Italy in several ways. By train by day from Amsterdam to Milano. Then you have to change at least 2 times. You can also take the Citynightline from Amsterdam to Zürich (Switzerland) and from Zürich to Italy. Or take the Citynightline to Münich (Germany) and travel to Italy passing Austria.
- there are plenty of direct trains or international buses that go from amsterdam centraal to Milan. From Milan you'll have a network of trains to anywhere in Italy. You you're going to Venice, I used a great company for accommodation, at http://www.holiday-velvet.com/venice You can also check-out local train times and book trains online at http://www.trenitalia.it which is the Italian national rail website. They also have the site in english. Have a great trip
