Why Italy

Is it best to purchase a euro rail pass on the Internet or at the train station when travelling to Italy?

  1. I was always told that you could not/should not buy the pass in Europe, but should get it before leaving the US. "Advance Booking: Please apply for your passes and other tickets at least 7 days prior to your departure from North America. REG will always try to help if less notice is given, but REG is not responsible for delays in delivery service or otherwise. If a product is ordered at short notice, REG will charge an additional fee for overnight delivery service. When ordering, please include your date of departure from North America. "
  2. Not sure abt Italy, but the last time from Luxembourg to Belgium, I bought the train tic at the station, you have a choice of many diff timings , which you can make a choice there & then. Quite easy though..
  3. I suggest you buy your rail pass at STA travel since you get it on the spot as opposed to waiting for it to be shipped or having to buy it in foreign country where language could be an issue.
  4. You can't buy them at train stations. Get them online or from a travel agent. Make sure you go to the train station when you get then and get it stamped though.
  5. Definitely buy before going over. Eurail tix are intended for non-Europeans; they tend to be unavailable in Europe itself.
