Why Italy

Why did these groups of immigrants come to america between 1880-1920? :Jewish, Chinese, Japanese, Italy, Irish?

Irish: I know because of the potato famine. Jewish: Chinese: Japanese: Italy: And the date is between 1880- 1920!

  1. Basically all the same reasons, Their countries were poor.
  2. Italians- to have a better life and make more money to bring their family over to America. Jews- to get away from the whole Hitler ordeal, many were forced to change their names. Japanese- Better jobs (work)
  3. Italians came seeking a better life and more economic opportunity for themselves and for their families. The Irish came for the same reasons really, only they were on average a bit earlier than the Italians as a result of the potato famine. The Jews came largely to escape the pogroms being waged against them in Eastern Europe, and hence sought largely political and religious freedom. Chinese and Japanese both basically came for more economic opportunity.
