Can you fly to italy with an out of date passport? it is by a month or something?

please help! we are going on holiday tomorrow and my mum has just got her passport out and it is out of date, went out like the 6th july 2009. We have not been abroad for many years and have been looking forward to this for around a year now. is there anything we can do please help. my parents are ringing the passport offices now.

1. No, you cannot fly with an out-of-date passport. You can get a new passport quickly but you need a current passport.
2. you can usually get a passport expediated in 24hrs....for a price. otherwise..you CANNOT travel on a expired passport.
3. No, all passports actually have to be valid 6 months past the date shown as the expiration date in order to be able to use it for travel.
