Why Italy

Reasons for France to support Italy against Scotland?

If Ukraine defeats France, France may not qualify. 1) Scotland - Italy : tie Italy defeats Faeroe Islands Ukraine defeats France (possible especially that the match is to be played in Ukraine) 1 - Italy 27 2 - Scotland 25 3 - France 25 Both Scotland and France would have 25 points. Tiebreaker rule1 applies, teams in question: France and Scotland. Scotland has 6 pts, France 0 pts. Scotland qualifies Italy and Scotland qualify. 2) Scotland defeats Italy. Italy defeats Faeroe Islands. Ukraine defeats France. 1 - Scotland 27 2 - Italy 26 3 - France 25 Scotland and Italy qualify. 3) The only case that France officially qualifies after the Scotland - Italy match is played is if Italy wins. so, after this match: 1 - Italy 26 2 - France 25 3 - Scotland 24 So, whatever happens with with Italy and France in their final match against Faeroe Islands and Ukraine respectively, both will qualify. So, are these good reasons for France to cheer on Italy to win the match against Scotland? @ Liverpool Ukraine-France will be played on 21/11/2007 while Italy-Scotland on 17/11/2007 I know France will prepare themselves to win the match. The point is that France will be supporting Italy on 17-nov to officially qualify if Italy wins. @ elGato If Scotland wins, France will need only 1 point from Ukraine to qualify. So Italy disqualifies even if they defeat Faeroe Islands. Assume Ukraine-France: tie Scotland defeats Italy Italy defeats Faeroe Islands. 1 - Scotland 27 2 - France 26 3 - Italy 26 tiebreaker between Italy and France, France has 4 points and Italy has 1 point. France qualifies. So Italy will not take such a big risk. @Fresh Prince The same thing that made Georgia defeat Scotland, may also apply to Ukraine and France, especially that the match will be played in Ukraine. And btw this is not the point of my question. France will officially qualify on 17-nov only if Italy defeats Scotland. And this is good reason for France to support Italy. and I didn't say "definitely" @Fresh Prince yes, i already said that 1 point is sufficient for France to qualify.

  1. everything is in france's hand. if they win, they will qualify. why worry about the other teams. i know i wouldn't. i am more worried about the team that i'll play next. i am sure that's what the french coach would say to their players; "focus on what can be control instead of thinking too much on something that's not within their control."
  2. That was like reading maths..lol but I think France has a loooooooooong way to get over there loss in WC 2006 to start cheering for Italy.
  3. based on this in dept analysis, why doesn't Italy throw the match against Scotland and improve the chance that France will not qualify. thanks for the insight. Go ITALY !!!
  4. But you're under the assumption that France will definitely will lose to Ukraine. That ain't happening. EDIT: And when France beats Ukraine, they'll qualify regardless of the Italy-Scotland game. I think right now Italy and Scotland have more to worry about than France. EDIT2: Yeah and I understand what you mean, If Italy beats Scotland then France will qualify even if they lose to Ukraine. So its in their favor if Italy wins.
  5. http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=450977 in a perfect world Domenech would fall and break a bone on the eve of France-Ukraine and then France loses. As long as Italy Dosn't lose I'll be happy.
  6. They would better die than support italy!!!
  7. Who cares about France , as long as Italy qualifies that's what's important!
  8. Hmm... Where's Touz's answer? Anywho... I don't think it's gonna happen. Or maybe it will... but um... I don't think they'll tell anyone, maybe their Dirty [really dirty] little secret!
