Why Italy

Can anyone give me detailed travel advice for a trip to Florence, Italy?

I am wanting to travel to Florence, Italy at some point this summer, possibly anytime between may-july. I was wanting to know a few things like when is the best time to go to Florence during that time slot and what the city is really like. Is it a really fun place to visit and did you enjoy your visit? Feel free to say anything you know firsthand about being in Florence.

  1. Any time in that span can be a good time to visit. However, May is likely to be cooler and less crowded - late June and July can be very hot here in Italy. There are some events that you might be interested in. In May, there's a 3 day festival of artisans with people coming in from all over Europe showing traditional crafts. There's also the Iris show and a cricket festival which is a bit odd, but interesting. The 24th of June is St John's Day which is definitely worth seeing, and the Florence Dance Festival runs through June and July. Of course, all the usual tourist sites will be open throughout the entire period. I live about 2 hours from both Florence and Venice and enjoy visiting both. Sometimes, I go for lunch and particularly like the ribollita and there are some good cinghiale dishes in Florence ... or a good Fiorentina. Try the vin Santo and cantucci for dessert. While you're there, be sure to go into the Orsanmichele. If you go up to Piazza Michelangelo (great view of the city), continue up the hill to the San Miniato al Monte church. There are some good frescos inside and a nice little shop run by the monks.
  2. Efcollegebreak.com does a trip that goes all over Italy including Florence. me and my friends did this trip last year and it was a blast it included everything from airfare, hotel, tours, and when it was done instead of going home we actually went back to Florence on our own and we stayed with my family out there and the trip include my plane trip back i just changed the date. Plus the discount code Vincig7397 saved us money. I believe their Italy tour this year is in June .I highly recommend it !
  3. I really enjoyed the Accademia and the Uffizi. Michaelangelo's David is in the Accademia, and that alone was worth the trip. Get a reservation for either one if you plan to visit. I also really liked Santa Croce, a church in Florence that has many famous people buried in it. Galileo, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Rossini, Marconi and Fermi are all buried here, and there is a monument to Dante. I also liked Ponte Vecchio, a pretty bridge.
