Why Italy

On average, what is the price per day to travel in Italy?

I plan on traveling all over, and am hoping to stay on a budget. I was wondering what the average price per day (including hostels/pensionnes) would be in Italy? I am not looking for exact prices, but is it anywhere in these ranges: <38.50 Euros (Less than $50) 38.50-77 Euros ($50-100) 77-115 Euros ($100-150) >115 Euros ($150+)

  1. It depends on exactly where you will be and when you will be there. Lodging prices vary a lot here depending on what's going on. I stayed in a hotel close to Piazza San Marco for the opening weekend of Carnevale and the room cost 150 euro per night. Saturday, the same room was going for 400 euro a night for the 2nd weekend of Carnevale. You should generally be able to find hostels for less than $50 per night though. You can get a feel for prices in various places and times using: http://www.hostels.com/it.html , http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/italy/ , http://www.hostelworld.com/countries/italyhostels.html?source=googleadwordscountry&gclid=CK2Pncfo8pgCFVSK3godRWPq0g a good site for hotels is: http://www.venere.com/
  2. If you mean going from one city to another then take a look at the link below. You can find the Eu-rail Italy situations that fits you best. Travel within cities (public transportation) generally costs about one Euro. You'll have to pay somewhat more if you are leaving urban centers to reach outlying villages or towns. Hotels and such - the bigger the city the more expensive the (better) hotels will be. It is not easy to find a place to stay in Milan for 50 Euro for example unless it's a flop house. You may want to book your places to stay before going to Italy - at least for the major cities. Food - if you are on a budget then you could shop for some of your food in supermarkets and make sandwiches in your hotel room. You can even buy wine in a box (which means you don't even have to buy a cork screw!). Pizza in a restaurant will cost you anywhere from 8 to 16 Euro + beverage + cover. Note that transportation in Venice costs 6 times more than anywhere else in Italy. If you want to save (some money) then buy a pass according to the amount of days you'll stay there).
