Why Italy

In Italian culture, will man try to pay the bill for a female friend ? ?

Hello! I'm planning my first trip to Italy this March to visit my pen-friend. As for the trip, he is suggesting that he will guide me there, and I'm happy for that. However, I little worry about monetary issues (such as restaurant bill, gas charge...etc). Can I just take advantage of his kindness ? or Should I give a certain amount of money beforehand(but this is too polite, isn't this)? Does a guy offer "Dutch treat" to a female friend without hesitating? ( I heard Italian guys like a show ) : D Although he has a decent job and is older than me, I don't want to bother him. Can anyone who is familiar to Italian culture answer my question ? Thank you :)

  1. I'd bring my own money if you haven't even met the guy face-to-face.
  2. until you get to know him better plan on things being dutch!!!
