Why Italy

I see a lot of older Italian women wearing black clothing, I am wondering why that is?

Is it to signify that they are widows by chance?

1. Maybe. Unless they are supporting their husbands by being in the MAFIA. lol jokeee.
2. maybe its a tradition, maybe it means something to wear black. what im guessing is that they are in mourning
3. Yes. The old style Italian women, mostly from the other side, once they become widows will wear black for the rest of their lives. BTW this is not only done by Italians, but many other cultures, once the women become widows. Black has traditionally been the color of mourning. In the old days they would wear it for the rest of their lives, and often wouldn't remarry.
