  1. Train , I have taken bus and taxis all around Italy , but most of my shipmates have said that the train is the best and cheapest way to get around if available.... rome rocks....didnt like venice....never made it to florence....hope you have a great trip...peace..oh and remember in italy they have pickpocketing down to a science if you carry a wallet keep it in your front pocket...if you carry a purse keep a hand on it.. and keep jewelery tucked into shirt / blouse.....
  2. Taking the train is the best way to travel around Italy. Check out this site for train information http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html Rome to Florence is a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour train ride. Florence to Venice is a 2 1/2 hour train ride Venice to Rome is a 4 1/2- 5 hour train ride It is less stressful, relaxing, etc. If I can be of help let me know

  4. Like robertin.. wrote, trains are the best option. http://www.trenitalia.com gives you all you need on information. The Eurostar, as "ES" shown on time tables is the most convenient and fastest train connecting all major cities in Italy. However, doing the trip Venice - Rome, you might even think about flying, checking the website http://www.skyscanner.net , it might come cheaper.
  5. Get a Euro-rail package with automobile (1-2 days), train, and bus. You plan based on how much walking and waiting you can handle. -------------------------------------------------------------
  6. Definetly by train. I'm italian. You may want to travel by night there is not too much to see by day, night trains are the cheapest. ICN --> nightrain ES, AV --> high speed train E.g. Roma tiburtina (not the main station) 22.50 to Venice 5.20 in the morning 40€ or so. http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/TimeTable?stazin=roma&stazout=Venezia&datag=21&datam=7&dataa=2008&timsh=0&timsm=00〈=it&nreq=5&channel=tcom&sort=0&npag=4&solotreno=0&noreservation=0&economy=0 Always have your valuables and documents chained to you (hip bags), exp. if you sleep in the train. Car rental is expensive: 2 day car e.g. rental 90€ gasoline rome to venice maybe 80€ highway toll 30€ parking in venice 25€ Good days
