Will I be a target of racial prejudice in Italy? (to italians)?
My father is Italian and my mother is African American, Im studying italian to learn it fluently so I can move to Italy and explore my heritage a little more. Im a light brown (mocha type color) and my hair isnt wavy like native Italians. With me knowing Italian does that help me out a little or make it worst. I dont want to piss anybody off. I have heard italians really dont like foreigners, and stuff. With my darker skin does that make me stand out and our you guys willing to talk to me and show me around. What about dating Italian women? Are they off limits in certain places or is it unacceptable for them to date me due to my skin or me being from the United States?

- I doubt it will be a problem, but I hear attitudes may differ in the North and the South of the country.
- Italians aren't the only ones who doesn't like foreigners. I would say most of europe. I've been to france. ( My parents speak french with no accent) But I have an american accent and everyone that I meet would make fun of me ( even the kids) because of my accent. The accent and not speaking itailian fluently would be the only thing that would bother you for now.
- If you know the language they will probably accept you. Yes there will be some racist, but there are racist everywhere. Even where you live now most likely. I think they usually don't like foreigners because the foreigners don't bother to learn the language. But if you know the language they'll probably be nicer.
- There no negative prejudice against Afroamericans in Italy, as it is clear you aren't a low income immigrant worker. But Italy has a very high rate of residing aliens, illegal or not, compared to USA; so many Italians have the same attitude toward immigrants, many Americans have towards Mexican immigrants (or Americans would have if Mexican aliens would be two times they actually are). So you can found some animosity if are taken for an immigrants from Africa or ME
