What is the fastest way to learn a language on your own? Italian?

I really want to learn Italian on my own, by myself. I might get confused because starting in August by fall or maybe next term like in January 09 Im going to take French as an elective. Italian comes first ive been studying put i keep forgetting i need like a schechule or something or studu time........

1. The fastest way to learn any language is immerse yourself in it, like find someone who speaks Italian and talk to them constantly, or watch a tv channel that only speaks Italian so you have to pick it up in order to watch tv....
2. french could help because they are very similair, i speak fluent italian and then i started learning french and i caught up with people who had been learning for 2 or 3 years i am now one of the best speakers in my class. you could try and buy one of those teach yourself guides, (even though i admit they teach you nothing.) or maybe find some online course. you could try listening to itlaian music so your ears get used to the sound of the voices and you may pick up some words, and you may even try getting some old italian movies and watching them with english subtitles, and there's loads of italian movies for everyone's tastes and they are pretty cheap on ebay and amazon.you might try and find someone who speaks italian on the internet (or pen pal) and see if they will chat to you and help you improve.
