How can I learn italian easily at home?
I am 15 years old and have an italian background and family. At family functions, italian is somewhat of a primary language being spoken. I want to be able to understand what my relatives are saying, and with that comes the knowledge of communicating with them. How can I learn to understand italian fast and easy? I have a mother who speaks fluent italian, so that may be of some assistance. Thanks

- you're sooo lucky!! I wish I had an Italian or European background! Just google Online italian courses, or free italian lessons, you'll get a bunch of sites... I've tried it before and they are pretty good, I just dont have the discipline to do it everyday :S.... good luck
- Don't use Rosetta Stone. It's useless. Until a few minutes a go, I thought Assimil could be used by French speakers only, I found this http://wpc3123.amenworld.com/indexuk.jsp?paramIdPartenaire=-2 .
- use video tutorial like http://theclickinfo.com/cse:learn_italian.tutorial
- The BBC website has an excellent on-line Italian course with different levels and plenty of videos with dialogs explanations, vocabulary and grammar rules. However, even if you get a grasp of the language basics, then you'll have to deal with the regional accent of your relatives, which in some cases (e.g. calabrese or pugliese) could be like learning the language again... Good luck, anyway.
- The best options are expensive but the good news is that there are plenty of far cheaper alternatives. I have put together a list of the best and most economical options on the market, be they books to learn Italian or learn Italian cd’s these should get you speaking in no time…http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-more.com/learn-italian-cd.html
