we will be travelling europe in july and need to travel from nice france to florence italy by night train?

There isn't a night train between Nice and Florence now. The night train that used to run from Nice to Venice isn't running either. There is a night train from Paris to Florence that stops in Dijon at about 9:30. That wouldn't be too bad but there isn't any real convenient way to meet that one from Nice as far as I can see. You could take the 6:05 pm train to Milan arriving at 10:50, but you'd have to wait to the next morning to get a train to Florence. There are direct high speed trains at 5:30 am and 7 am and a lot of hotels around the train station in Milan. There are options for overnight travel, but they would involve a couple of train changes and at least a couple of hours layover in the middle of the night in Pisa or Bologna.
