Why Italy

Dating a woman of the same race that puts down that race?

My friend is Jamaican. He's dating a woman that is half African, half Jamaican. She often says to him "i hate the typical black man, but you're different." She also says to him I love Italian men ( she exclusively dated Italian men in her youth) but her family would never approve if she married one ( she tried when she was 19). If a black man approaches her she has nothing but contempt for him and yet when someone approaches her who is Italian-looking she is flattered. My Jamaican friend is offended and she doesn't stop making these comments. She feels that she is black so she is justified in criticizing black men. She has had some bad experiences dating black men. Generally she is very loving to him and she often tells him how much she loves him. Does he have a right to be offended? Does he have the right to question her love? He thinks she is ready to be married, her African family is very traditional and would never accept anyone who wasn't black and he feels settled for.

  1. Although she may care for him, from your post it does indeed sound like he was settled for, as she'd rather be with an Italian guy but found an "acceptable" black guy to placate her family. I can understand her having some issues if she's had bad experiences, but it's not fair for her to hold those feelings against millions of black men, because of her few isolated incidents. I've had some crummy things done to me by white guys, but that makes me angry at THOSE guys, not all white males. That would be stupid. All people of any sex or skin color are not the same.
