Why Italy

Does anyone know of a site where you can learn Italian and French for free?

I have a friend in France and I call her family by telephone but have trouble if she does not answer as the family members other than her cant speak English. I also have a friend who is Italian and want to be able to converse with her. I cant afford to pay to learn.

  1. The BBC has a pretty good site on learning French and they have an Italian section too. I don't have any experience with the Italian section, but my French professor recommended the site it to us. It's beginner level, so it shouldn't be too hard. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/index.shtml) Also take a look at Tennessee Bob's Famous French Links. Don't let the name throw you off--it's actually a very good resource to finding just about anything you need concerning France and the French language. (http://www.utm.edu/departments/french/french.html) The only other thing that you might want to look into are podcasts. The only one I have experience with is "The French Podcast," but it's pretty good. I only watched a few shows because I realized it was way below my level, but it should be helpful to someone who doesn't know the language at all. If I remember correctly, there are worksheets and video for each lesson. (http://www.podcast.net/show/47274) Don't expect to become fluent just from these sites since they are all at the beginner level. They will probably help with very short phone conversations, but I wouldn't expect to be able to go to France and be okay. Hope that helps!
