How long for a French-Speaker to learn Italian?
I'm fairly proficient in French, that being so how long would it take to learn Italian? The idea to do so came to me when I realized every time I saw an Italian sentence I realized I could make out a lot of the vocabulary. I've never really had an interest in the language but if it only takes a little while to learn I might as well do so. Say I was to practice for an hour everyday.

- You must surrender to the language .. then you will be able to speak it.
- i moved to italy when i was in 1st grade and it was really easy to learn so i think u would learn fast b/c french n italian are a little bit similar
- The two are both Romance languages, and very similiar, which is why you can maike out some of the Italian you read. For example, in French, the sea is La Mer, and in Italian, I think it's La Mare or Mara, I'm not exactly sure but you see how they are related. If you want to excel in Italian, it should be easy for you because the French that you know, already has your back and will probably allow you to move twice as fast as someone who has not studied a romance language at all. Bon Voyage!
- Depends on how long you practise.........pratise,pratise,pratise
- However ever long it takes you to speak Italian fluently, duhhhhhh ,lol, when u start sepaking Italiajn fluently then u will know how it long it took YOU, ooooh duhhhhh lol.
- French and Italian are both Latin- based, so it should be fairly easy to learn Italian. I am learning Spanish (also a Latin- based language) and French. I started learning Spanish before French, and I could easily understand the basis of French. It is good that you know another language already, once you learn one world language, it is a lot easier to learn another. Also, I'm glad you aren't starting two languages at once, I would not reccommend doing that, it gets kind of confusing, especially if they both have the same base- language. As for how long exactly, it depends on how fast you learn and how dedicated you are at learning the language. I'd advise taking lessons from an Italian instructor or an experienced Italian speaker. Bonne chance!!
- A few months should do it, surely, depending on how smart and how fast a learner you actually are, lol! Good luck to you buddy!
- It should take you very little time to get the gist of it and master basic notions and have a fairly good understanding of simple phrases or conversations, as French and Italian are very similar (especially grammar-wise). But as someone said, depending on your general talent for languages and how fast a learner you are, time can vary. One thing you should avoid though, is compare what you're learning in Italian with French. A lot of times your comparisons will work, but that's just the wrong way of doing things and there ARE confusing differences between the two. Just immerse yourself in the language. But overall, you'll have a much easier time than an English-speaker for example. Buona fortuna!!
- If you speak French, it will be easy. Italian and French are very similar.
