  1. italy is a pretty big country. it is best if you break it down into cities or interests -- like milan is very nice and very european but its not quintessentially italian like rome or venice. do some research or go pick up some fodor's guides at your local bookstore. you can eat well in most places -- just know where you are going. in europe -- france and italy especially you can spend a months wages on dinner. food is art for them -- not something in a greasy bag you get thrown at you through a drive thru window. you can eat well off the street for cheap. don't dress like an american -- leave the shorts and flip flops at home. you will be amazed at how much tourists stand out and make themselves targets. in parts of italy especially thievery is an art -- and american tourists are easy prey.

  4. That's a big question .... and very subjective. So let's give it a framework: 1st Stop : National Tourism Offices for in depth tourism information about where nd what you want to do. 2nd Stop : Driving ? Discount Car Hire rates are your next consideration or Ferry / Road Maps 3rd Stop Accommodation websites for last minute deals and change of plans as well as forward thinking established places booked well in advance. I've enclosed some links to help get you started
