Whats the best thing about your culture? What heritage/ethnic background do you have?

I have a dutch/australian heritage. I like that we traditionally kiss each other 3 times as a greeting. I have now adopted the italian culture too - I love the great food and sense of family! Love to hear what you think :)

  1. I am Indian from north India ... Punjab my culture has taught me to respect elders and stay in the limits of your religion. love others and help the needy and poor.... The best thing about our culture is that the children respect their parents and take care of their parents till the parents' die // and the parents respect and love their kids n take care of their kids till paretns are dead..... Families live together to centuries and there is no difference on the basis of religion... We hug each other when we meet and the small touch the feet of the elders as a sign of respect and to get blessings from the elders. I love Indian food... it is healthy and delicious.

  3. Good question, but I have to say "BEST" applies to all. My opinion is more about exploring all cultures,,,as you allude to, rather than trying to define any BEST quality about 1 in particular. Certainly everyone has THINGS they enjoy about their origin, race, belief system, but wouldn't it be OK, if we could accept others,,,ALL others, because they ARE, rather than for WHO or WHAT they might be,,,which by the way,,,was never their choice. 4. i'm iranian. the best feature of my culture is hospitality and sense of family
  5. I don't have a race, but I am Catholic in culture.
  6. I'm a descendant from Italians and Spaniards (on my father's side) and Swiss and Arabs (nice mixture, on my mother's side). I live in Argentina, where this kind of mixture is not uncommon at all. I think the best thing about Argentina is that since we are a relatively new country (we were born in 1810), we can still change a lot for the better. We haven't got such a long established tradition as Europeans have, so we can still make our future the way we want it to be.
  7. I learnt that I have much closer connections to an English back-ground than I ever thought. I knew that my great-grandfather was English, but my ancestors arrival from Europe is even more recent than I thought. I also have Welsh blood in my veins too.
  8. Even though I'm not Religious, I consider my Ethnic heritage to be Jewish. There are many things that are common to almost all Jews no matter where we are from, so that is why I consider it to be an Ethnicity and not just a Religion. The greatest thing that I personally have taken from my Cultural Heritage is a reverence and respect for knowledge and books.
  9. I'm adopted. Now what?? I have taken on many different traditions and ideas surrounding life in general. I am partial to western cultures ideas on holidays, and eastern cultures on spirituality and generally I just love food. There are so many wonderful things to be gained from having an open mind and heart about the world, it is sad to see so many folks who narrow it down to just their 'street'. And yeah, I would like to know more about my heritage and learn more specifically about those cultural ideas. To those of you who have this privilege, please share with others the beauty of your worlds.
  10. I have a German/Irish heritage and what's better than drinking twice a year?! Well, I don't drink, but I'm into the music.
  11. I am Irish, German, Polish, little bit Native American, Bohemian, & Luxemborgian. Irish- they have their own holiday to get drunk, and Polish- people don't question you when you are Polish; they are just like "you're Polish?" German- they just plain cool.
