Why Italy

Italian Baroque Music?

Does any body know of any good music schools in Italy? I am very interested in 17th to mid-18th century Italian music (Baroque). Also, if anyone knows a good place to study piano and harpsichord, that would be great, too. Any suggestions are welcome!

  1. for the piano and harp go to Juillard
  2. The Santa Cecilia in Rome is a pretty famous conservatoire, if that's what you're looking for. Here's their site: http://www.santacecilia.it/scw/ The only other ones I know anything about are the San Pietro in Naples (Pergolesi and the Scarlattis had something to do with this one, so I guess harpsichord studies should be on their agenda!), and the Giuseppe Verdi in Milan (don't know if this has a specialist baroque department, but try contacting them anyway) There are a LOT of music schools/conservatoires throughout Italy, so happy searching! Maybe you should start by contacting one of the music institutions in US or UK for advice, and speak to their harpsichord/keyboard professors. They'll be happy to help, I'm sure.
  3. Vivaldi, Carissimi, Geminiani, Domenico and Alessandro Scarlatti, Bononcini. In Italy: Santa Cecilia (Rome), Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi (Milan). I don't know other places.
