Why Italy

Studying in Italy (florence)?

I just got back from my second trip from italy 2 days ago, my family & I stayed at my aunt house in Ponte e egola (Tuscany). I had a few thoughts of studying in Florence cause i found it really beautiful and interesting, comfortable as well! I know very little Italian but im still working on it. Im planning to go to college in italy & sooner or later live there after im finished with it. Can someone help me out to find a couple of good colleges in Florence. I dont exactly know what i want to study just yet but i have a few things in mind... Arts/Design, or vocal voice. (music) also will i learn how to speak italian while im in the college will there be classes for that? thanks!

  1. If you are planning to go to college in Italy (or any OTHER country) you MUST learn the language before you enter school. You aren't going to start school and then magically begin to understand that language... all you will do is get frustrated and then get dropped when your grades suffer because of your inability to understand the material. College is not like High School... the teachers really don't CARE if you get the material or not...it's up to you to learn. Plus, you will find that European schools are at LEAST one or two YEARS beyond your learning level if you are coming out of the broken U.S. school system... so, as a bare minimum, you need to speak, read and write Italian, regardless of what courses you plan to take.
  2. In reply to garrison (kinda): There are some schools which are international orientated, meaning they require you to speak the native language OR English. You should check out the websites of those schools, write an e-mail if necessary to find out. Also, living in the country of the language you want to learn is the fastest way of learning it. You will be confronted with it everyday, leaving you to *have* to learn it as you go. :) Here are some art schools that I know of. They're pretty traditional/realism based, so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. Try searching on the web for some things! :) http://www.florenceacademyofart.com/ http://www.charlescecilstudios.com/
  3. Please, do not consider to go in a private university; here in Italy private universities are expensive and not very good compared to the public ones. Here in Italy we have a public university for foreigners, expressly created for the diffusion of Italian language and culture among the people of the world. It's located in Perugia (a very beautiful town in Umbria). http://www.unistrapg.it/english/ Than we have a lot of other universities, here a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_Italy According to italians university rankings, the best university in Italy is the university of Trento - http://www.unitn.it/ - It's in the north in a mountainous region, near the austrian border. Here the rankings: http://www.repubblica.it/speciale/2007/guida_universita/index.html (in italian) Sorry for my poor english. :) PS: send me a message if you need more info.
