Why Italy

Getting married in/near Florence, Italy - any advice?

My partner and I want to get married in Italy - a town hall ceremony would be great either in Florence or in a small town near Florence. I'm just starting my research so I would really appreciate on any advice on cost, locations and recommendations for suppliers if possible.

  1. the best advice I can give you about getting married in Italy, is to invite me, I have always wanted to go to Florence. you are lucky !!
  2. dont wear too high a heal as it is tradition to walk through the cobbled streets in your wedding gown.. use a repelant as wasps are a problem at certain times of year in some areas due to lemon trees lining the roads.
  3. My sister married in Sicily and they contacted a small town mayors office (it was a village wedding) about local services. On their day they had local musicians in costume who led the procession ( a bit like the scene from Godfather 1) . So cool!
  4. Hi, I'm Italien and I live in a small town near Florence called Pistoia, serch about my town, maybe you'll find an interesting place for your ceremony!
  5. I would recommend Siena near Florence, a enhancing little town. Seek some documents in internet.
  6. I am marrying in Arezzo, a town south east of florence near Cortona (where under the tuscan sun took place) here is the link to where we are have our wedding reception. We will be renting out the whole villa and our fmaily is styaing with us for the week. They are very reasonably priced and very very accomidating. Also it will be catered by a company called secret tuscany, they have pulled together a wonderful local flavor menu with wine pairing for a reasonable cost. I am planning a wedding in italy for May 8th (6 weeks!) Here are some things you need to be aware of. First of all you can only marry in pre-approved locations, churches, townhalls, villas, all that are pre-approved by the italian governement to marry. In order to hav e a marriage legally binding in italy and the US you need to obtain an "atto notorio" from the local itlain consulate closest to you. Mine is in San Francisco...google Italian consulate offices to the US and you should find it. You then need to get all those documents, your birth certificate and passport translated into italian. You schedule a meeting with your local consulate to review everything. Once approved, they will send it to one of the three offices in italy closest to where you will marry to review. Once they have approved that you are required to scheudle a meetign with them at least 3 days prior to your wedding date to meet in person and make a sworn statement that you are able to marry. after that you receive permission to marry that is recognized it italy and the US. It is not easy plannign a wedidng abroad. I fyou need more info feel free to contact me.
