Dieting in Florence, Italy...?

Im on a very strict diet, but i am going to Italy. What are some tips so that I can stay on track even though I cannot make special orders on food like in the U.S.

  1. Depending on how long you are going, like if you are going only for a few weeks, I would say splurge and eat what you want. It's no fun dieting on a vacation. But if you must because of moral or religious reasons, just use your judgement. Eat salads or low carb meals. It's hard because I have no idea what kind of diet you are on-- vegetarian, vegan, low carb? Eat smaller portions and if you decide to have some pizza or tiramisi, eat lite the rest of the day. Also try to avoid buses or taxis and walk instead to burn calories.
  2. I was in Florence and really loved the food. There is a farmers market that runs alongside the river Arno and you can get some great things to eat there. Here's a good tip for you. When you allot space in your luggage for the outbound trip, put some special non-perishable diet foods in there. As you consume those items through the course of the trip, fill those spaces in your luggage with some local purchases. I shopped with my daughter on the Ponte Vecchio (sp.) bridge across the Arno and bought some great silk ties, leather gloves and a slick looking vest. We could have spent our whole budget right there. I've attached the link to dining with a diet in mind that I think you'll like. Bon Journo (sp.)
