How Long Would it Take to Learn Italian in Florence?
Hi I am thinking of travelling to Florence next year and wanted to learn italian. My mums side of the family is italian and they all speak it and I dont so I would like to finally learn it. How long do you think it would take to learn italian if I was doing 4 hours contact time, going on excursions and living in Florence. I can understand a bit but not speak it very well. Thanks for the help!

- The best Italian in Italy is spoken in Florence, or Firenze, and I think that if you start learning it right now, and reading anything in italian you will developed a very good understanding of the language. I never attended one class but learnt by myself and read newspapers and books in italian, so I got a good base. I was in Italy three times and in a week I was talking to everybody in italian. Maybe what it helps is that I`m an Argentinian, and italian and spanish have the same base: latin, and besides every letter in the alphabet has one sound. One of the few differences es j which doesn`t exist and is supplanted by i. maurituchi@yahoo.com
- Hi, I'm italian, I live near Florence. I'm sure that you'll learn italian very well if you live here. I don't speak very well english, I've studied it at school only. People here are very friendly and I think that you haven't problems! Good luck! P.S. If you need some help, write me a message!
- My friend went to a 5 day course in Florence. 7 hours a day. She now speaks it beautifully. Good luck!
- hi! if u want i can teach ui some italian! i'll drop u an email
- To understand the Italian language you must stay more than 3 months, to speak it about 6 months. You can learn a poor course of Italian in 6 weeks, if you want only to amuse yourself in this excellent city.
- i think you'll learn fast! i can speak italian now, i only study italian every Monday for 3 hours in school. lol. good luck!
- You'd learn very quickly being in Italian, particularly in Florence, where the national dialect is from. If you want to brush up on some Italian before you go, have a listen to http://www.survivalphrases.com , it's a site that teaches languages to people who are travelling. Sounds like you!
