Why Italy

Advice on eloping in Rome, Italy on our own?

We would like to elope in September 2008 in Rome, Italy. If you have been through the process of filing the paperwork/making appointments/ finding witnesses and an interpreter all on your own...I would like to hear from you. We need for the cost of the entire wedding process: civil ceremony at wedding hall in Caracalla, the paperwork/legalities, and someone to take pictures/ snapshots (does not have to be a professional photographer)all for 2,000 or less! :o) I know it can be done...just need advice to make the process as easy on me as possible. Please do not write and tell me to get married in the US first to save money...that takes away all the fun and excitement, or that I need to go through a wedding consultant (unless you can find one for cheap ;0) I want advice from someone who has already been there and knows exactly what to expect. How difficult is it to get the paperwork filed it you do not speak Italian? How much time does everything take? Thanks for any help!!!

  1. I have been to Italy a bunch of times, although not to get married. The paperwork is difficult - I am sorry to tell you. I do believe you need to find a wedding company to do it for you and handle this, do the translations, etc. Check out this link and see what you think - http://www.italian-weddings.com/marriage_requirements_italy.html
  2. To bad it is so expensive to fly there! I would photograph your wedding for free!
