Why Italy

Can I use a non-chip credit card in Italy?

I am travelling to Italy in April and have just received a non-chip credit card from my bank. I plan to use this as my main source of money. I have heard/read that non-chip cards are not accepted in many places throughout UK and Europe, but have found little information regarding their use in Italy. Has anyone used their non-chip card in Italy recently? Any advice would be great.

  1. It gets accepted and it does work like every other card too. You can use it in supermarkets, restaurants, gas stations .....
  2. It's still OK to use in Italy. Make sure you let the bank know you're travelling overseas so they don't stop your funds. Is it a credit or debit card? Any money taken from an ATM with the credit card will attract interest straight away, so you're better off with a debit card. Whichever card you use, make sure the PIN is 4 numbers.
