Why Italy

Travelling to Italy and am wondering about booking hotels online?

  1. Depends where you go and, most important, WHEN you go. If your train/plane arrives in the late afternoon/evening, it's better you book an hotel on-line, just for one night. The following day you may have a look around and see if you find hotels you like more. If you book on-line it may cost you a bit more, unless you find a special promotion. Eventually you may give the hotel a call and see if you can get a little discount... you never know! Finally, if you are on a budget, to avoid disappointment, you better -as I said- book on-line only the first night and then go and personally check also other hotels, so that you can find a good one (clean, friendly staff, near the city center....) Have a good time over there! Ciao!

  3. I live in Italy and book hotels here frequently when I'm out exploring. I use the venere.com site: http://en.venere.com/italy/. When you've chosen a particular city, you can narrow down the search to a specific distric on a map and then sort by price, rating, and other criteria. I've always been pleased with the results including hotels for Venice for Carnevale, Rome, Capri, Genova, Munich during Octoberfest, Milan, Verona and Bologna for early flights, ...
  4. I book all my hotels online and found it to be quite secure. However, I deal directly with the hotel I want to stay in. While it's necessary to provide credit card details to secure a booking, you don't actually pay until checking out of the hotel. Cancellation is usually up to 24 or 48 hours before arrival date. Booking with an online company often means paying up-front, and limited cancellation rights. Meaning you have very little flexibility. These companies are a good way to find an hotel in a particular location. Then you do an Internet search for the hotels website. Sometimes timeconsuming but practical.

  6. You can use the map or sort hotels on price at http://www.travel-europe.org to find the best valued hotels. It also has a rating of the hotels by customers and regional info like information on Rome etc..
