Why Italy

why are italians so picky?

i am dating a man, 35, divorced, 2 young kids.. i am 26, divorced, no kids, but love his and they love me... he is italian, like from italy italian... he has raised 2 of the sweetest loving and lovable girls in the whole world... so i am trying to figure out, how and why he is so SERIOUS about his culture and food and the way things are done? i know italians have a lot of pride, and they should.. i am italian also, but not from that country as he is... he would rather i stick to what i know than try to do something to please him and mess it up.. for example, pasta... every meal, he makes a pasta dish, "primo". so, i made dinner the opther night, but apparently i used the wrong pasta for the type of sauce i made and it was a huge deal! whats up with that, how do i fix it, and why can't he just be nice and say, "hun, this is great, but next time, use this and this is why?" oh, btw, he has been here 25 years!!!

  1. I think because he came from a different country, he has different customs and perhaps a deeper obedience to stick to them. Also, keep in mind that it'll take time for him to get accustomed to American way of life.
  2. Excuse me! Just kidding, I'm Italian and not all Italians are like that, its just his personality.
  3. I am Italian and yes we are quite proud and maybe picky but what He does is not the nicest thing. I mean you do things for him to please him, cook italian dishes and instead of appreciate you He "turns you down"? I dont feel like saying it's very Italian - I go more for personality. He is already very serious and if his reaction in response of your polite and careful gestures is this----well tell him something. There is NO reason to make a huge deal out of it.......even if I LOVE PASTA!!!! Lol. Hope you can talk to him and fix this because today the deal is the pasta....what about tomrrow if you 2 ever decided to have your own kids ---there will definitely be bigger issues to talk about like how to raise them etc etc. Buona Fortuna!
  4. IT'S ALL FALSE real italians (people who live in italy) are very critic toward themselves, italians are not patriotic and nationalist, they consider often other european Union nations better then italy, etc so your question is totally wrong!!! i'm italian and probably i understand the behaviour of the person that you have described, probably he doest' live in italy from years, and he is a bit annoyed listening italian migrants, as italian americans, that are totally culturally and socially different by european real italians, speaking about italian foods, when they eat shit, they have strange traditions disappeared in italy from years, they speak wrong italian language, etc. but the think to be really italians, despite they have never been in italy, deforming a reality, increasing unjustified stereotypes about italian people!
