Why Italy

Is Venice, Italy, an island?

I went to Venice this past June but I was a little confused as to whether or not it is an island. My tour guide said that there is a bridge that connects it to the "mainland" but he never said if it's an island or not.

  3. yes it's constituted by many islands connected from bridges in a lagoon, and it's linked with mainland by a big dam where there is the highway and the railway
  4. A bridge connect Venice to the mainland. It was built under Mussolini's dictatorship. The city had been built on 118 small islands which are now connected with 354 bridges. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t187/jacopofrancisconi/Venezia.jpg
  5. Venice not island but Murano ,Burano are island .Yuo have necessity to take the boat Venice is fantastic
  6. venice is absolutely an island connected by bridges. if it wasn't connected you would arrive by boat only, but the train can go & also cars.
  7. You can consider this as an man made island the reason being is that the all the architectural structure is set in shallow water. put it this way walking from the sand to the ocean for about a mile in and not being cover by the water but only waist deep there finding a place to construct a house the same way a pier is made.
