Why Italy

I am a litle late in life but want to travel am female 52 and looking to stay in italy. Suggestions?

What would be the place to look for accommodation and as I have British Passport can I work there? Is it safe? I am a single traveller...husband died 3 years ago and I am in need of an adventure...Where are the best places to stay? Would it be best to buy a Eurail train pass and just travel that way? Am presently living in Australia and plan to travel in from October this year. What would be the best items to take with me? Thanks for any responses. Cheers

  1. In October I would go to the bay of Naples, Sorrento, Pompeji and also south to the gulf of Amalfi and Capri. I was there alone, your age, a few years ago; had a few days before and after a conference. Bought a map, hiked from Sorrento over the hill south -like half a day and enjoyed tremendously. If you are sober, decently dressed and armed with maps, a few words of Italian and use common sense, you will have no problems. You can also find -I think -group hikes/bike tours etc. I walked a little in downtown Naples while waiting for my plain and that was pretty "interesting". In broad daylight nobody harassed me at all -and they make good pizzas. Pompeji had never time to go to, but would love to or Herculaneum which is less crowded, I was told. or go up to Vesuvius. I took a day trip to Capri -alone-had no problems whatsoever. There are many other interesting places in Italy , it is many worlds, these just to encourage you that yes, it can be done -and enjoyed!
  2. The answer to the first question is yes, if you have a British passport you can stay and work in any con tries within the EU, including Italy with no limits. The only problem with Italy is that it is not easy to find a job. Italy is safe, as long as you avoid some rough areas in some cities or areas where there is nobody at night. In Italy there are a lot of great places to stay, all Italy is beautiful and the food is great. A Eurail is a good idea if you are planning to travel a lot. As you are going in October, you will need some winter clothes, because October is late Autumn in Italy. The south is milder than the north; in Sicily, for example, there can be lovely sunny days also in December, but it may also rain sometimes. In terms of places to visit the north east (Treviso, Padua, Venice) is lovely, but also the centre (Umbria, Tuscany, Parma, Le Marche). It depends if you prefer quiet towns or cities. The Amalfi coast is beautiful, but very expensive. The south and Sicily are wonderful and not too expensive, but you need to be able to speak Italian. If, for example, you travel Sicily (which is worth seeing), you will be better off with an organised tour. In famous touristic spots, like Florence, Venice, Milan or Rome you will be able to use English no problem.
  3. you can go to Rome to work for cinecita they make movies you could find something good luck and let me know i might like to come too !!
