can i use my single-entry schengen visa to visit other schengen states other than italy?
I just got my Schengen visa from the Italian embassy in Bedford, UK. It says that the number of entries is 1 and the duration of stay is 3. My friend told me that I can use it to visit the pther Schengen states. Is this true? Or should I have applied for a multiple entry visa? It also says that it's valid from the 10th of September until the 27th of September.

- Yes, if its a schengen visa you can visit anywhere within the Shengen boundries . 1 entry visa would mean you could only the leave and re-enter the Schengen area one time. You are free to visit as many countries in the Schengen region for the alloted time on your visa.
- Yes, you can visit all of Schengen countries covered under the visa, but you must enter via Italy. It only means that you can only enter the area under which these countries fall only once during that period stamped in your passport. Thus essentially enter via Italy and travel from there to Germany, etc, but once you leave Italy and travel to a non-schengen country, your visa is null and void and cannot be used again. Multiple entry would imply you could enter those states more than once (thus you could leave and re-enter under the same visa as long as it is within that period). It is always better to apply for a multiple entry visa even though it is more expensive because it gives you more flexibility when you travel - e.g. you might want to travel to a non-schengen country on the same trip and re-enter one of the schengen countries. This you can only do on a multiple entry visa, and NOT on a single entry visa. I think the "3" on your visa for duration of stay refers to 3 weeks. Have fun on your trip. cf
- Yes, as long as your visa is valid!
