Could this mean im italian? (this one is for yall that answered my other question and for anyone else)?
I hope yall remember my other question about being italian. I thank everyone for their answers, that really helped. Now i did what yall told me to do and look into more. So i did. I found out that my last name means baccalarius in latin, and baccalarre is italian. Its just shortened in italian compared to the latin one. And that was the first time my name was born in that language, but there is no real origin for it. It still meant bachelor as being single back then, when it was starting to be used around and after 8 A.D. when single men were being seperated from married men. So doesnt that actually make me italian if my name was originally bought up in rome, and by the italians. It has went thru lots of variables, and is now of course bachelor, and batchelor. But really its not english origin cuz the origin is still unkown, it just says that cuz the english happened to name people batchelor around 1600 as a real last name, before that they used it as a name for knights.

- dunno but Italians are Hawwwwwwt(opera voice). ^_^
- Well If you assume that through time names change and migrate throughout kingdoms and continents then no. ex... My last name is Mitchell every book and website will tell that its from the French word Michelle which is from the Hebrew Micheal. But My family is most certianly not French of Jewish I've had Our DNA tested and its Anglo-saxon with possible Viking origins. We just took the name of Mitchell maybe through a Patron Saint or because of a feudal Lord. As for Latin or Italian names. Latin was once the Root language for most naming system since Roman times it is possible the name is derived from latin roots but it doesn't mean your Ancestors were in anyway Italian for that matter. I would suggest that you research your family back every generation until you have probable Country of origin, then may I also suggest you take a Y-DNA test to determine your Ethnic origins. Good luck in your search.
- no guarentee on that line of logic, because family lines often jump the tracks of logic. the Romans settled in great Britain as far back as the first century. they did inter-marry with the local Angles. when rome abansdoned there far flung out posts as their empire slowly faded, many generations had been born and raised in England by then, (400 yrs of roman occupation). But your name could have just been given to your ancestors because they lived on the property of a local landlord (Lords, Earls, etc), and the "serfs" would take the name of there Lord. this is epidemic in england, similar to the clans in Ireland and Scotland, you used your last name to associate with the local clan chieftain, not all where realated, and this causes must anger fro mpeoplewho thnk they are of a prominent bloodline, to find out they where just a local pessent who used the Land Lord or Clan Chieftains name as there own, that is why the whole family crest and tartans (color ed cloth) where worn and used to Identify the true family memebers from the local rabble. Once you start looking prior to the early 1600s, things get very confusing, and family lines are near impossible to follow unless of heraldic lines.
- There is no reason you can't be italian. But Batchelor could also be french and greek. The name is taken in the greek from Bacchus. Young unmarried men took part in the riotous drunken festival called Bacchanalia. From that you get the modern word -Batchelor, or unmarried.True it is Roman in origin, but not all romans came from Rome.So not all of them were Italians. The idea of aspiring to Knighthood is born of the idea that a young man would not have been tarnished by the desire to fight and kill.He would be "Virginal" and therefore ready to be moulded as a Knight. As far as I can make out the term batchelor or similar name goes back to 1100. Your name may have changed from something else to what you have now. But Good Luck in your searching.
- I hope you remember my other answer. The only way to know your family history is to research it back generation by generation.
- Hey, snoopy... friendly review: the exact origin of your name (or any other name) is not a way to indicate your ethnic heritage. Tracing YOU is independent of tracing your name (although MANY names MIGHT lead you back to a particular place). Language and names are tricky, since in most cases, we are looking back at records that may or may not still exist. Same for ancient history. We work with what we have, the experts come to their conclusions. Nothing is provable, in this angle. YOU have Italian heritage, if your ancestors come from Italy. Example.. your father's surname belongs to him, his father (not mother), grandfather, down the line. If you trace it back, you will find the immigrant, and HIS exact origin. Of course, you have many ancestors... ie 8 gr grandparents. Only one of those carry your surname.. the rest are wives, coming from other surnames (and maybe countries). You are 1/8th of each ancestor. And they are 1/8th of THEIRS. Finding the origin of your name proves nothing, even assuming it could be found. What IS provable (to a certain extent) is who you descend from, irregardless of even what the name IS or was. While names and origins seem linked, they are actually apples and oranges. Still in the fruit family, but unique.
