How can I learn Italian FAST?
I'm Italian, and I want to learn the language, fast. Is there anyone who can help me? My grandma lived in Italy, but she forgot how to speak Italian. Help! My Grandma doesn't live in Italy anymore! She forgot how to speak Italian!

- It's an easy enough language. Your best bet is to use three things--audio, video and text. As much as I can't stand the BBC, they do have an alright language course for beginners on their website. Here's a fair warning--the so-called "Italian" older people speak usually isn't even similar to the standard. You would actually be better off NOT learning it from your grandmother if you want to actually use it.
- Living in italy would be the quickest way but of course you know that.
- Move to Italia, live with your grandmother. You will learn the language very quickly.
- Well, I fear it isn't really possible to learn a foreign language fast and well. You can learn a few basic phrases fast, but that's not the same as learning to speak the language. I have been learning Italian for nearly 11 years, and it took me 5 years to acquire a good working knowledge. If you are really determined to learn well and as quickly as possible, you must also go to a class taught by an Italian, or at least a fluent speaker. Here are two books that I really recommend if you want to learn Italian well, up to an intermediate level. The first of these will also enable you to learn basic Italian *quite* fast - it depends on how many hours a week you put in of course: "Soluzioni! - a practical guide to Italian grammar" by Denise de Rome (publ. Arnold, ISBN 0-340-66203-4) "Crescendo!" (publ. Thomson-Heinle 0-03-031823-8) - this also has audio material I do not recommend Rosetta Stone, although many people do. The other thing that is well worth doing is attending a class for a week or two at a language school in Italy - there are very many language schools in all parts of Italy.
