Do Italian men assume most black women are prostitutes in Rome?

Please settle a debate amongst some friends on a message board. A black lady visited Rome, and got a lot of attention from the men there (wolf whistles, banging windows, etc). She even got her rear end pinched once. Some women on the board think that Italian men are generally more flirtatious and it was harmless admiration. Others stated that due to a large amount of Afro-Carribbean and African prostitutes there, many Italian men assume that black women are prostitutes. Only men who have actually lived in Italy, please respond!

3. My husband and I have had this discussion on several occasions. He says that it is generally the shape of a black woman that Italian men are drawn to. They are attracted to a more rubenesque physique. This comes from the age-old philosophy that a healthy woman with a hearty appetite for food and life was fit to bear children and work. I don't believe that it's because they are considered prostitues... it is because they recognize beauty regardless of skin tone!!! It's about damn time!!!

5. i was stationed in italy and i dont think that that is true. some foreign men think that amercian women are whores regardless of the race. another reason why italians may "like" her is because of course it rare to see women of color like that in their country. but still, there are itialian men that do find black women attractive. and that's all.
6. I don't live in Rome, but I live not far from in Milan and the prostitute situation is not different here. I can say that unfortunately and sadly, the majority of black people in Italy comes from poor country such as Africa and South America and live in my country illegally. Most of them come here because they're promised a job and a new life, but once in Italy they can't find what they expected. Girls are often led into prostitution (most prostitutes come from eastern countries such as Moldavia, Ucraine, Bulgary... Black prostitutes are mostly from Nigeria. And some of them are not even of age), while men usually end to become drug dealers or, as we say in Italy, vù-cumprà (they mostly come from Senegal and sell little objects from their country, books telling stories about Senegal and legends of their oral tradition, or counterfeit bags, belts and clothes). It's a sad situation and people keep coming here full of hopes (about 200 people a day) and apparently our government is doing nothing to solve this problem. I'm sorry for your friend, but I don't think she was mistaken for a prostitute because they usually wear flashy clothes. I say I'm sorry because that was probably a show of some italian men's rude attitude
