How can I learn Italian more quickly, since I already know French and Spanish? I'm looking for some kind of Italian learning program that caters to people who already speak other Romance languages, or at least moves quite quickly. I'm especially looking for something I can listen to in the car, since I have a very heavy commute... I want to avoid something like the Pimsleur program, I have it now and it's driving me crazy since it repeats everything so many times; and I can already understand Italian, for the most part, I just can't speak it. Thanks!

My university offers study abroad programs but its kind of a hassle. Any information will help.

How did you learn to speak Italian fluently?? I want to learn Italian very badly. I have looked at several websites, and I do find good information, but it is all out of order, I have no idea where to start. I am jumping from phrases, to alphabet, to pronounciation. It is very confusing as I have not found a very organized website that will truly help me. I was wondering how did you learn to speak Italian? And are there any books that are good? Like for example: Italian for Dummies?
Would you consider Italian a difficult language to learn? I'm currently learning Spanish and Portuguese and would like to learn Italian as well. The thing about it though is that I probably won't be able to take classes to learn the language (I'm already a doulbe major doing International Business and Spanish and plan to pick up a minor in either Mandrin or Japanese). So for this reason I am thinking about just learning the language on my own. I'm doing this with Portugues right now and have been pretty successful. But I'm not sure if that's simply because I'm learning Spanish in school and Portuguese is very similar to it. Is Italian similar enough to Portuguese and Spanish where I'd be able to learn it on my own? Thanks in advance!

How long for a French-Speaker to learn Italian? I'm fairly proficient in French, that being so how long would it take to learn Italian? The idea to do so came to me when I realized every time I saw an Italian sentence I realized I could make out a lot of the vocabulary. I've never really had an interest in the language but if it only takes a little while to learn I might as well do so. Say I was to practice for an hour everyday.

Should I learn Italian or Spanish? Hi, I'm just seeking some opinions as I'm kinda stuck in deciding on something. I'm a politics student but I'm looking to make my major into international studies and modern languages degree in which I would earn enough credits in French and a 3rd language. I can't decide between Spanish or Italian, I enjoy them both equally (far and away the only two I'd consider at this point). In my heart I want to learn Italian because my moms parents are from Italy so it is in my family but I am not fluent. I also like spanish, it is spoken by far more people and more relevant geographically (I live in Canada), than Italian at least. Anyways my point is that as an undergrad degree should i be going for spanish, the more spoken/practical towards getting a career in North America, and learn Italian later due to similarity to french and spanish....or am i ok to tell these thoughts to sod off and just take italian? i know this is lame, but thanks!

Which is easier to learn by yourself - French or Italian? I'd like to learn a language by myself in my free time and my first choice is French; second-Italian. I dont have time to attend classes. I heard that Italian is easier to learn because of the pronunciation, but French is spoken more widely than Italian. Also if I learn Italian, it might be easier to learn Spanish and Portuguese. I'd also like to go to Canada someday and French might come in handy if I'm in Montreal. So should I choose the useful French or easier Italian?

I want to learn Italian. Help please? When I was eleven years old, I received a letter from a girl in Italy. Her school project involved having an American penpal. We've been best friends ever since. I'm now twenty, and getting married in a year and nine months. She hopes to come in for my wedding, so that we can finally meet. I always thought she spoke English as well as she writes it/reads it, but she does not speak English at all. I've wanted to learn Italian for a while now. Can anyone tell me the best way to go about it? I live in West Virginia. I don't believe anyone around here speaks anything other than English, German, Spanish, and French...I want a program that will especially focus on pronunciation. I hate books/programs that leave you with your idea of the pronunciation only to embarrass yourself later. Also nothing too expensive please.
