Advice on eloping in Rome, Italy on our own? We would like to elope in September 2008 in Rome, Italy. If you have been through the process of filing the paperwork/making appointments/ finding witnesses and an interpreter all on your own...I would like to hear from you. We need for the cost of the entire wedding process: civil ceremony at wedding hall in Caracalla, the paperwork/legalities, and someone to take pictures/ snapshots (does not have to be a professional photographer)all for 2,000 or less! :o) I know it can be done...just need advice to make the process as easy on me as possible. Please do not write and tell me to get married in the US first to save money...that takes away all the fun and excitement, or that I need to go through a wedding consultant (unless you can find one for cheap ;0) I want advice from someone who has already been there and knows exactly what to expect. How difficult is it to get the paperwork filed it you do not speak Italian? How much time does everything take? Thanks for any help!!!

Does anyone know of a Catholic Church that will re-new wedding vows in Rome Italy? (A service wants $3K !)? We don't need hotel, airfare, etc. cause we have all that. The marriage consultant services that help foreigners visiting Italy to get married or re-new vows usually sets up everything. Since we only need the church 're-new vows ceremony' with their priest and a photographer, I don't understand why I have to pay $3k and up. Maybe I can plan it myself and save some money. I have found a photographer, but am having trouble finding a Catholic church in Rome just by surfing the net. I have found several churches, but they don't offer services to foreigners and I am having trouble finding address or phone numbers to call and ask. Thanks!
Driving and parking in Italy - Rome, Florence, Venice? Hi, I will be travelling with a baby and I was thinking of driving around in Italy - Rome, Florence, Venice. I am not sure yet if I'd go to Florence and Venice but Rome for sure. 1) Does it cost a lot to park and are there lots of parking lots available? I know for sure for a 4 day rental it cost 200 E so that's not so bad as taking a taxi from Airport already cost 50E one way. 2) is it easy to drive around in Rome/Florence/Venice? 3) How many hours journey should I expect it to be between these three cities? Thanks
Should I just stay in Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) or go to more European cities for anniversary? My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 yr anniversary and I want to take him to Italy, my most favorite European country. I have visited many cities throughout Europe but he hasn't. He has only been in Spain once while I have been in Europe 4 times many years ago (before the Euro!). I was checking prices and tours of just Italy and this costs me about the same as other tours to other countries. I was thinking that if we go to Italy, we can only afford the kind of tour that would take us to Rome, Florence and Venice (if I go to Italy, I must go to these three, hands down). There are other tours that touch these three only briefly, and also include cities in France, England, even Germany, for about the same price and maybe an extra couple of days more than the Italian tour. I don't know what to choose. He tells me he doesn't have a preference, so it's up to me. Also, do you have any recommendations for tour company that is not geared to only senior citizens or wild singles?
Rome, Italy Question. Please Help.? I'm going to Rome on a cruise in about a month. It will make a one day stop in Rome. What is the best method to see the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, Sistine Chapel, and of course the coleseum. There are a few excursions offered by the line, but they are too expensive, and they don't go to all the stops. I read that there is a train station about 15 minute walking distance from the port. That train line will take me into St. Peters Square. I also read that from St. Peters square, I can walk to all of the above places. Is this true? If so, how far apart are they? Finally, is there any really good interactive maps that I can use to get a good bearing of where I will be at. Thanks!
Is Mardi Gras celebrated in Florence or Rome in Italy? What kinds of celebrations do they have? I thought about going to Venice for Mardi Gras while I'm on holiday in Italy, but it would really be far out of the way. I'm from New Orleans and want to see how others celebrate the holiday. I've heard that Rome and Florence (or any other towns around there.....Siena, Assisi, Naples) do something that day to celebrate. Any help? Are there any websites that can help me find info?
Rome, Italy - elegant restaurant recommendation needed.? I am getting married in Rome next March. I am looking for a luxuriously elegant restaurant with excellent food for a party of about 10 people for the wedding dinner. I am especially interested in the setting providing a feeling like you are in a palace with fine furnishings - fine heavy drapings with deep colors, plush furniture, oil paintings on the wall, candle lit, fine tableware, etc. The interior decor throughout the St. Regis in Rome is a good example of what I am looking for, but the restaurant there, Vivendo, looks a bit too contemporary for me. I considered La Pergola at the Hilton Cavalieri and La Terrazza at Hotel Eden, and while they have wonderful views, the luxurious setting I was looking for with the deep dark colors wasn't there. I also considered Sapori del Lord Byron, but it also was lacking in the setting I desire. I would greatly appreciate anyone's recommendation who could help me along with where I could see some pictures online of your recommendation.
