Why Italy

Travel tips for Italy? I have 16 days to travel around Italy with a husband and three kids ages 17, 15 & 10. I would like to travel from Rome to Florence(or vice versa) and would like to know how long we should stay in each(major) city to see all the major sites w/o wasting time. Should we drive ourselves around to save money? Should we find one central location to sleep, cook, shower, etc. and venture out from there daily? Cost isn't a HUGE issue but we will be on a budget(don't know how much yet). Hostels are not an option having the kids with us. I am not that concerned w/luxury, pampering, etc. only comfort, convenience, privacy, etc. We certainly don't mind cooking most meals at 'home'. We are not mainstream tourist types and like freedom to do as we like; ie schedules, tours, etc. Any suggestions on where to stay, car rental, good sites to see, best time to travel, do's and don'ts, kid friendly, precautions and the like. Thanks a lot for any ideas you have!

Do you think is it love or bullshit? Hello. My friend married this italian man she met online. She was a very poor girl so he came to meet her very fast and took her to Italy and they got married. Soon after that, he confessed her he came to my country to meet other woman he met online, but then, he picked her! Nowadays they have 2 years of marriage and my friend says he has given her a different life of luxuries in Italy and she is satisfied...but yesterday she told me, they travelled together and he told her to go to a different hotel (and she actually slept in another hotel) she says she has found him giving himself a handjob in the bathroom (when she was ready for sex) and he lets her go out with as many man as she wants (even when they are really hot he NEVER gets jealous) is this trust? or just a very european-like way to think...or he doesnt love her? I am worried about my friend cause I don't feel like he was very nice and she says that she is getting used to this even when here in my country I dont think is so normal. What should I do as a friend? Thank you :)
Where is a great *affordable* honeymoon destination for September 2008...suggestions? I'm getting married on 9/27. We're 22, & are in school & working full time, so, we don’t have a lot of money. I'm looking for ideas. Hotel on the beach? A cruise? We aren't sure if we can travel anywhere outside of the US (financial reasons) but it would be awesome if we could just come up some ideas. I HAVE TO HAVE THE OCEAN OR A SEA OR SOME LARGE BODY OF WATER. If he could go anywhere in the world, it would be China or Paris. I would love to go to Japan, Mexico, Spain, Italy, or the Caribbean. My mom suggested, Nashville or Gatlinburg the other day. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with those places, I just would prefer those places as vacation spots for when we have kids…not as a honeymoon. We are attempting to get as much luxury as we can of course. The destination you suggest doesn't have to be any of these places. Money is the name of the game. Any suggestions are appreciated. If you know the round about cost, that's even better! Again, thanks for any suggestions & prices! We are from southwestern Ohio. Sorry forgot to mention that...

Should I take my laptop with me to Europe? This summer, I am going to be spending two months in Europe. One month will be spent studying at a university in France, and the other month will be spent travelling. I plan to visit the bordering countries of France for 4-5 days a piece and spend my time in hostels. I know that my time as a student I would love to have my laptop for watching DVD's (and workout DVD's so I can workout in my dorm room), talking to my SO, reading and connecting back home via the Internet, and also working part time to make a little extra cash. This all sounds fine and dandy, but I know myself, and I know that when I am in Italy having a nice pasta dinner, I am going to be worried if my laptop is still back at the hostel where I left it. I know the luxury of the internet and a media center at my fingertips would be nice, but I am still having reservations. What do you think? Have you had a similar experience? Thank you for your help!
