Insider tips for Italy travel? We will be going to Italy at the end of June. Does anybody have any tips? Or know any GOOD websites for making travel easy, local customs and even etiquette? We are already with a tour group but we get A LOT of free time. The tor group just basically gets us to our destination (Rome, Florence and Venice) provides us tour guides to the main historical areas. I want to know how to get along while we have our free time (ALOT) Thanks ahead of time.
Travel tips for Southern Italy and Sicily...Possibly getting married there also? My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Southern Italy (Rome, Naples, Capri, Palermo etc) including Sicily in March or April of 2008. We have never been to Italy and we plan to go for 10 day (not including the travel days to and from). We know that we need to do a tour or we would never see the things we want to see but we don't want to be restricted to eating with the people on the tour and staying in the hotels they stay in. Basically, I would like to know if anyone has taken a trip to Italy where you basically set up the sightseeing tours only, you can eat where you want and stay where you want but they set up transportation to and tours of sight of interest. We want to stay at the nicest places and have freedom to eat where you want, are there any companies that allow you to do this. We are also thinking of getting married in Sicily, he has some family there (whom he has never met, but are very receptive to our coming). We would basically be eloping(just the 2 of us, no one knows) we want a Catholic ceremony then when we come home we would have a nice Civil Ceremony for just close family and friends (he works for a judge so he would perform the wedding). Is this possible and if anyone has done this please let me know. We would also like to start off in Sicily b/c that is where my bf wants to get married and then the rest of the trip will be our honeymoon, is this possible. Any info will be appreciated, especially from those who have traveled southern Italy and/or American citizens who have had a Catholic wedding there. Thanks for the advice Pearl, but I am Catholic hence, the reason I wanted a catholic ceremony, and have made my sacriments (baptism and confirmation)
I am from the U.S. and would like to travel to Italy - is 2/3 days enough time in each city...? There are many tours in Italy: 2 (days) Venice, 2 Florence, 2 Rome 3 Rome, 3 Florence, 2 Venice 2 Venice, 2 Florence, 3 Rome, 2 Sorrento My question: is that enough time to spend in each place? I don't want to spend all of this money just to be rushed around. Or do you recommend staying in a different city for a longer period of time? We are not normally sight-seers, but would like to experience the culture.

Has Anyone used Gate1 Travel to book a trip/tour to Italy? My Husband and I have been looking at using Gate1 just because the prices are pretty good for doing a 10-14 day tour of Italy. We want Rome, Venice and Florence. We'd like to do a few "tour group" things, but we want to be on our own as well since it's our honeymoon. Has anyone used them, what was your experiance like- were they a reputable company?

Question about becoming a tour guide in Italy? Any advice from those in the travel business about starting your own business as a Tour Guide. I lived in Italy many years ago, and I studied Italian for a long time. Italy would therefore be my main interest. What would be the best way for me to start?
Travel to Italy..? A friend and I are looking to go to Italy probably in the summer of 2009, but we really have no idea how far in advance we should book, what travel agency to use, etc. We are are in our mid-30's and would like to travel with the same age group (ages no higher than 45), anybody know of a compatible tour group? I have searched on-line but can't really find what I am looking for. Thanks in advance for any info!
Pilgrimage (religious shrines) tours in Italy (incl. Rome); group best, or on-your-own? My daughters and I are in the planning stages of making a pilgrimage tour to Catholic shrines in Italy (at least ... would like to include parts of Portugal and France if feasible). We're at least a couple of years from actually making the trip, but want to plan carefully -- and need to save travel funds bit by bit. I've seen packaged tours offered that seem to cover everything; on the other hand, I'm wondering if we could save money and have a more flexible itinerary by doing it on our own. Any recommendations?

What should I bring to Italy for 10 days in April? I'm traveling to Italy for 10 days in mid-April with a tour group. What should I bring with me other than the basics? Are there any items that wouldn't be commonly thought of, but have proven to be handy to have while on vacation?
How much money should I bring to spend in italy? And what is one Euro worth? Hey I am from america and will be traveling to Italy, how much money (in Euro) do you think I will need to bring. I am going with school so the majority of tours are already covered, and so is the hotel and breakfast and dinner everyday (not lunch though). Also like what is the value of one Euro, what can it get you? And if you can let me know the average prices of everyday things that would be great to! Thanks so much.
The thought of touring Italy, with child and luggage overwhelming? I am of italian descent and would like to tour Italy and visit relatives. The idea of carting luggage around and travelling via trains a little overwhelming. My son will be 5 when we intend to travel. Is it difficult to do, or should i go with tour group?? I',m Australian and would start off in Switzerland and work my way down to Sicily..
My friends and I are going to england in may.We would like to know of any rail tours to france italy and spain We were thinking of leaving from manchester or london on May 1st and spending a maximum of two weeks on the tour. If this time is not available, we don't mind going at any time in May. We would like to travel by rail, have an escorted tour, and go to france (paris), italy and spain. If going to all these locations is not possible, we would like to go at least to Paris. We have a budget of a $1000 canadian at most for the tour (that's why we didn't want to travel on the tour by plane, we figured rail would be cheaper). Thanks
Travel Advice for 14 days In Italy needed!!!? Need help planning a 14 day tour of Italy. -Need suggestions on where to rent a car to travel from Rome to Amalfi and back (everything I found for 5 days is more then 45USD a day) -Need recomendations on where to stay for the following: Rome 1 night, Naples 1 night, Capri 1 Night, Amalfi 3 nights, Florence 2 nights, Tuscany 2 nights, Venice 2 nights (200 USD a night will get too expensive for 14nights) -Need advice on what the best method of Transportation (railpass, oneway train ticket) from Rome to Florance, Florance to Tuscany, Tuscany to Venice and then Venice back to Rome would be for the above itinerary. Any input would be great. Advice from a local or someone who has been would be the best. Airfare is already booked and paid for can not change this trip now. Thank you in advance
Travel tips for Italy? I have 16 days to travel around Italy with a husband and three kids ages 17, 15 & 10. I would like to travel from Rome to Florence(or vice versa) and would like to know how long we should stay in each(major) city to see all the major sites w/o wasting time. Should we drive ourselves around to save money? Should we find one central location to sleep, cook, shower, etc. and venture out from there daily? Cost isn't a HUGE issue but we will be on a budget(don't know how much yet). Hostels are not an option having the kids with us. I am not that concerned w/luxury, pampering, etc. only comfort, convenience, privacy, etc. We certainly don't mind cooking most meals at 'home'. We are not mainstream tourist types and like freedom to do as we like; ie schedules, tours, etc. Any suggestions on where to stay, car rental, good sites to see, best time to travel, do's and don'ts, kid friendly, precautions and the like. Thanks a lot for any ideas you have!
Travel through Italy? Hi, my husband and I are thinking of traveling through Italy next spring. We will have about 10 days. Spain may be something we would consider also. In your opinion, what are the most important cities/regions to see? Would we be better off going on one of those package tours or doing it on our own? We don't want to completely slum it, but can't stay at five star resorts--budget wise. Thanks for opinions!
We want to do a bicycle tour in Italy but they all seem to be to long and too expensive. Any suggestions? We are planning a trip to Europe for next summer and we really want to do a bicycle tour. We are planning on traveling for two weeks and spending most, if not all, of our time in Italy. I've found plenty of bike tour sites but they all have tours that are either 1 day or 7+ days (too long since we want to do Rome and Florence too) and most of them are like $2000+ because they put you up in a 4 or 5 star hotel!! We're not that pretencious. We really would like to find something for 3-4 days that is cheaper a few hundred per person and we'd prefer camping. Any suggestions of where to look?
travel to Italy on your own? I'm comparing traveling to Italy, making my own arrangements versus going on the package tours. Advantages? $$ savings ???
Has anyone traveled with EF student tours before? Is it worth the money? My best friend and I are considering going to our very first trip to Europe. We are fluent in Spanish, and I have a decent grasp on Italian, so we decided to go on the 'Mediterranean Journey" tour, which is a 9-day trip to Italy and Spain. Has anyone every traveled with EF tours before, or know where I can get a good, comprehensive review of their services? Thanks in advance!
Suggestion for a guided tour trip to Italy Summer 2008? Help!? My mom and I are looking to travel to Italy this summer. We definitely want to go on a guided tour, and would like to travel all around Italy (Rome, Venice, Florence for sure). However, we are looking to do so for no more than about $6000 total. Anyone have any suggestions of good tours groups that will work with our budget?
I am looking for a family friendly trip to Italy? I have 4 children, ages 17, 14, 13, and 10. We will be traveling spring, '08. Is this a good time to go to Italy? Should we book a trip with a travel agency, like a guided tour, or is there a better way to book things separately, like a "do it at your own pace?" I do not want to be overbooked like the guided tours tend to be, with having so many kids, but I do want to see at least Rome, Florence, Venice, and Capri, or some ocean. I am worried that we could not do it on our own, without the help of a guided tour. But the tours tend to be so fast paced, and boring. I want this to be an amazing trip, that we will never forget. And fun yet educational for the kids. Thank you for your answers to anyone who has done a trip like this!
How can I avoid looking like an obvious tourist in Italy? About 11 people from my Italian club (at school) are going to Italy with a tour group called CHA. My Italian teacher, who has organized two trips prior to this one, wants us to wear CHA's backpack when we're over there, in order for her to see us easily. I personally think that it's just going to be an even more obvious indicator that we're tourists, aside from the fact that we'll be traveling in a group... As far as I know, no one else has had to label themselves a tourist in such a way on her two previous trips. Any suggestions on how I can *try* to convince her to drop the whole "wear the backpack with the obvious CHA label" idea? Also, for those of you who live, have lived, or have been to Italy in the past, what do they usually wear? I was considering bringing several of my Hollister shirts, plus a few plain (non-labeled) shirts, and jeans. Will this just scream "TOURIST!," or do they have/wear Hollister over there? Thank you!
What is the best way to get around in Spain and Italy? We have 10 days in Italy and a few days in Spain. Want to s ee more of Italy this time. Can we manage without a tour guide? We have travelled a lot (but not in Europe) and is a family of 6, ages 22-61. Any suggestions on where to fly in from USA to keep the airfare low? We will be flying from ATL and Boston and meeting up in Italy.
When my husband and I go to Europe, will it be better to join a tour group or to travel on our own? I believe that there are pros and cons to both. If we join a tour group, then we don't need to worry about our itenerary, about us getting lost, no more stress in planning the whole trip. If we travel on our own, we will save (since it will be cheaper if we research well) and we can have more time in the places that we like. So that's our dilemma. I really want to go to Europe within the year. Must-visits are the ff: France, Spain, Italy. Thanks in advance!
EF Educational Tours trip to Italy and Spain? I'm going to Italy and Spain for 11 days this upcoming summer with EF Educational Tours. I've heard different things about the tour company, so I just want to make sure it's an okay tour company. I've heard from some people that you don't get your own beds, and that you have to share a bed with someone else. My cousin, however, went on a tour to Spain with the same company in 2005 and said that she had her own bed. Anyways, I'd also like to know what types of things to pack. I'll be going June 20-30, 2008. It'll be my first time traveling to Europe, but not my first time traveling abroad. In 2005 I traveled with the People to People Student Ambassador Program. What are some major differences between P2P and EF? How much money would you recommend me taking? Any other information you may have about the program or the two destinations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time for the help.

We are travelling with out two boys (15 and 12). Should we make our own reservations and rent a car or is it better to get a tour and have some structure?? Anyone knows some great tours in Italy??

Please recommend a great Italy tour guide for us? We are a group of 6 in our early 30s, most married, and business working professionals who need a nice vacation before some of start thinking about starting a family. We want to visit Rome, Milan, Florence in about 12 days. Since it's our first time, we want to visit the major sites, do some serious outlet shopping, and enjoy some fine dining, and maybe visit some special experiences like visiting a winery or taking an italian cooking class, etc. We would sincerely appreciate a referral to someone who can plan all of this out for us and guide us all over Italy. We are definitely willing to pay for a great experience since we don't get to travel as much as we'd like to. We would like to stay at nicer hotels, ideally some with elevators. Thanks in advance!!
Ten Day Tour of Italy in April - Advice? I'm spending ten days in Rome & southern Italy (Naples, Sorrento, Taormina, etc.) with a student tour group in mid-April. What should I make sure to bring with me, especially for the weather during that time of year? Are there any items that would be useful that you wouldn't normally think of bringing with you? I'm looking to travel light, seeing as we're going to be moving from place to place, so any suggestions for packing would be great as well.
Traveling to Italy this summer. Need recommendations? I am traveling to Italy in the summer with 5 other friends (ages 23-27). We are going for 8-10 days however we are not sure if we should do a guided tour or come up with our own itinerary? What will come out cheaper? What will be a more rewarding experience?

Exploring Italy...? I want to travel to Italy. What are some of the best spots? How can I save money? What are the best places to stay and tour?
Going to Cannes in March...should I also go to Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome) or France and London? My sister and I have a 4 night stay pre-booked for Cannes from March 20-24 (she's 30, I'm 25). We have til March 31 to explore another place in Europe (about 7 add'l days). We were planning to take the train and do a country-wide tour of Italy, hitting Venice, Florence, and Rome (each for about 2 nights, on our own- no tour groups). Now, we're wondering if it would be better to do a trip through France instead, with a stop in London. Is there anything of interest in cities outside of Paris? My thinking is we may not go to that area of Europe for a while, so it'd be good to take this chance to visit Italy. It's more likely we'll get to London/Paris before we can go to Italy (I've been to London before, sis hasn't). What's a better itinerary, taking in traveling time/mode/costs? Is anything going on in Italy or France in the end of March that will make it worth a visit? We can also arrive in one airport and depart from another. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Roman History Buffy Traveling to Italy...? Keeping it brief, I am a history buff especially when it comes to Ancient and Medieval Rome. I prefer doing my own sight seeing, but guided tours are OK if that is all there are. I was hoping for ANY suggestions you have for someone going on a Roman History vacation in Italy, sights, locations, hotels, anything. Thanks in advance!
Has anyone any ideas of tours across Europe ending in London? I will be in UK/Europe in September/October 2006. Would like to do a tour from London to Italy and back either to Paris or London - has anyone any experience of this type of tour? I am "middle aged" and travelling alone!! Specifically looking at budget type tours by bus/train. Thank you to everyone who answered my question - I have some very good websites to work from. Again, many many thanks.
